Just a Blog About Plants

Here at Swash Labs, we each aspire to have a green thumb. Some of us are doing better than others, but we all love that jungalow vibe regardless. So today we’re showing off a few of our leafy plant children. Enjoy!

Andi

On the left is my Angel Wing Begonia, which I nursed out of rehab. (She was given to me by the owner of a local plant shop with one tiny baby leaf and fragile roots.) On the right is my Lemon Lime Maranta, which I got right when I moved to Chicago in April 2019 as a smol plant. Every summer, I give him a haircut and gift/trade the rooted clippings to friends and neighbors.

Kennedy

This is my cute fake plant. I named her Shirley, after my Grandma who is amazing and has an entire farm down in Mississippi.

Our Aunt Mary Ann always had a Plumeria on her balcony. When she moved to assisted living, she gave me the Plumeria. She passed away this past spring, so I gave cuttings (read: sticks) to any friends/relatives who wanted them. On the right is the original plant (or a cutting of the original – I have lots!) and on the left are some of the new starts from this year.

This Pothos just survived a cross-country move. This same plant, or at least its roots, sat on our table at our wedding, so we’ve had it for just over 20 years!

The Florida Ghost is one of the many joys you find when you venture too deep into your local plant community and then get obsessed over weird rare tropicals 👻

Stephanie

This is Marguerite on a good day. She is a Peace Lily so she gets super dramatic, which is why I named her Marguerite.
