Joan has been here since the beginning of time. Well, Swash-time, that is. Her background in advertising and print design brings a wealth of practical expertise that keeps the rest of us grounded and sane. She graduated from University of Texas in Arlington with a degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Advertising and a minor in Marketing, the closest thing they had to an Advertising degree back in the day. When Joan first started working with computers to edit graphics they looked like this:
Joan is incapable of reading anything without finding a typo.
Joan grew up on a farm in Iowa and was educated for twelve years by liberal, socialist Catholic nuns. Her personal hero is Jane Goodall and she admittedly swears like a rum-soaked sailor. She’s learning the ukulele and getting especially good at playing Happy Birthday; we always get a special serenade at Swash birthday parties. Joan has made a personal goal to make it through an entire year avoiding single-use plastic and updates us with her progress regularly on our blog. You can also follow her farm-to-computer gardening and outdoorsy musings on Twitter @crittergarden.
If you ask her what her biggest personal achievement is, she’ll tell you it’s her kids, but we know it’s just because she's too humble to admit she’s an all-around badass and inspiration to us all.
